My Face Hurts
I don't know what is going on with my face. My skin is oily anyway, but for the last several months it's looked like I'm spreading vasoline on my skin. Of course it's breaking out too, so I've been looking like an old wrinkled teenager. Then suddenly, almost overnight, the oil disappeared. Now my face is scaly, peeling, red and so itchy that I can hardly stand it. Even my lips are peeling and bleeding in the corners. I'm wondering if my hormones are responsible for this. There seems to be no other explanation. What's next on the menu of life, hot flashes?

How about a visit to a dermatologist? It couldn't possibly be age related!
By the way, I noticed this entry was not accompanied by the usual photo:)
Do you wake up sweating at night? Enquiring minds want to know!
Sarah, trust me, you do not want to see a photo. I've seen a dermatologist and all she did was complement me for staying out of the sun. I think my problems are age related. Hormones might help, according to what I've read on the subject.
Dave, my thermostat is still functioning perfectly. I'm not having mood swings either. I just look like Hell. :)
I think hormones may very well be it. I remember when my mom got her hysterectomy, and went on BCPs after--she ended up with a resurgence of teenage acne and boy howdy she was pissed! I also know that when I would go on and off the pill, my skin would change.
You aren't that old! And I just saw you a week or so ago ago and you looked fine, did this occur suddenly or is it intermittent?
Brandy, I think I might first try some natural sources of estrogen and see if that does anything. If all else fails I could ask to be put on the pill, not that there is any possibility of my becoming pregnant. ;)
Sarah, Like magic, the dry, peeling skin is now oily again. Maybe my skin dried out because of my diet of too much fruit and not enough fat.
The plastic surgeon I used to work for said to eat the chicken skin if your skin is dry. Don't ask me why...he's the one who went to school for 27 years! Next time you come over remind me and I have some great cream for you, the Burts Bees carrot face cream, only when it's really dry though.
Bingo on the diet. That's what I was going to suggest as the cuplprit. Especially if you've been eating a lot of acidic fruit. Do you take flax oil ever? It worked wonders for keeping my skin softer when I hit that 'from oily to dry' stage a couple years ago. Sean and I both take it every day. He swirls his into orange juice, I put mine in a smoothie or soy yogurt or just swallow it straight. Magic omegas.
That's it, i'm staying 42 forever, your scaring me re the hormones and Connie's night sweats LOL!
Thanks, Mary. I'll try the flax oil, although now my skin is suddenly oily again.
Michelle, I only know of one way to stay 42 years old forever. :)
