I'm Not Really Crazy
I have a new favorite patient who said the best line of the evening, "I'm not really crazy. I'm just hallucinating." I'm not so sure about the crazy part, but she was right about the hallucinating part. She got into an argument with the vital sign machine, thought the voices on the TV were laughing at her and when told that she had her surgery yesterday, angrily said, "Well! No one told me that I had surgery."
Later, I heard her sobbing and wailing. I asked her what was wrong, but she was crying so hard that it was difficult for her to talk. Finally, she was able to say that her blanket was tangled. I straightened it and then asked if there was anything else that she needed. She said no, she was fine now.
It must be awful to feel emotions so intensely that every minor nuisance feels like the world is coming to an end. Recently, I saw a cup that said, "I used to care, but now I take a pill for that." It's too bad that they can't find the right pill for her.

I agree, that poor lady!
I want to know how you get the pill the cup is referring to.
Brandy, that's why I could never be a psyche nurse.
Sarah, isn't that what xanax does? :)
Now that you mention it yes, oh the wonders of modern pharmaceuticals!
"Not crazy, just hallucinating" - what a great line! Will have to remember that one.
I'm wondering what her definition of crazy is? She met my definition.
