Misadventurous Melissa

Everyday is an adventure, or misadventure as the case may be. It is the latter that makes for the best stories, inspiring the name of my blog. I'm a nurse and an attorney (and way too silly sometimes). I am retired now. WELCOME to my blog! This is a work of fiction inspired by true events. The patients I refer to are a patchwork quilt of various patient's problems mixed together. If you think you recognize someone, you are wrong. These people do not really exist.

Food and Warmth

Last March, my electric blanket broke. I tried to buy a new one, but every store I went to said it was a seasonal item and that they didn't have any. But it was still freezing cold.

I tried piling blankets and down comforters on my bed, but I was still miserable. A small heating pad by my feet helped, but that only warmed one foot at a time. My mother scoured stores for me and finally found one last twin-size electric blanket. I put it on one side of my king-size bed and was delighted. I survived the winter.

Now that it's the hottest time of the year and Costco has its Christmas stuff on display, I found electric blankets. I bought one that fits my bed, although I'm not really sure why since I only sleep on half of the bed. Also, I have yet to have any two legged guests "visit" my bed since my marriage ended, but now I'm prepared, just in case.

One of my coworkers introduced me to Philippine dried mangoes. Aside from tasting good, they had a slightly gelatinous texture like gummy worms that I found oddly appealing. When I found a bag of Philippine dried mangoes at Costco, I was delighted and bought a bag. Although the flavor was good, they're not the proper texture. (I wonder if an Asian fish market would carry the kind that I like.) It's annoying when my coworkers get me hooked on something that's hard to find.

Oh, I love those Phillipine dried mango things. Some friends from the Phillipines brought some last time they came home, and they were fabulous.

I just wish that stores like Costco, Vons and Ralphs sold them. If people knew how good they are, they wouldn't be able to keep them in stock.

Have you tried the mexican chile mango pops. I know it sounds a little wierd but the sweet and spicy works really well together. You can find them at the Vallarta market and they are cheap. you could get the nurses back at the hospital by getting them hooked on them!

Is it a sucker or a popsickle? It does sound good. I like hot and sweet together.

It's a sucker. But If you like those combos they have mexican inspired ice creams and sorbets at whole foods now that you would love!
