Misadventurous Melissa

Everyday is an adventure, or misadventure as the case may be. It is the latter that makes for the best stories, inspiring the name of my blog. I'm a nurse and an attorney (and way too silly sometimes). I am retired now. WELCOME to my blog! This is a work of fiction inspired by true events. The patients I refer to are a patchwork quilt of various patient's problems mixed together. If you think you recognize someone, you are wrong. These people do not really exist.

Water Treks and a Fight

We've been getting a work-out at work the past couple of days. Our water and ice machine is broken, so every time a patient needs water or ice, we have to hike to another unit in the opposite wing.

It would be nice if someone would fix it for us, but I'm starting to wonder if they're doing this to us on purpose. As part of the Thrive campaign, perhaps this is their way of getting us to exercise more. Or maybe they just don't like us.

A personality conflict between two nurses led to a loud, tearful argument. A manager happened to wander in during the fight. She suddenly stopped, assessed the situation and turned around and left. I wish that I could have done the same. For the rest of the evening, I had to listen to each person tell their side of the story. It was tempting to say to S., "Everything that B. said about you is true ," and to say to B., "Everything that S. said about you is true." But all that would have accomplished is to make both of them mad at me, so I kept my mouth shut. I'm not as blonde as I look.

You have the office politics down. I never liked those situations.

Office politics are so annoying. I do my best to keep my mouth shut, mind my own business and smile. And then I come home and blog about what happened. If my coworkers ever find this site, I will have to look for a new job. :)
