Pettifogger Blogger
This afternoon, I was sitting on my patio, drinking wine and listening to the fountain. It felt so peaceful until I decided to read the newspaper. Of course I was aware of the hurricane, but I had not watched any TV in a few days and had only quickly scanned the newspaper stories. It wasn't until I started reading the in-depth stories that the suffering hit me and I realized that I'm nothing but a pettifogger blogger. (A pettifogger is someone who quibbles over trifles.)
My blog is almost exclusively about my life experiences and other matters of little real importance. I wanted to keep it light and hopefully amusing because I think that too much of what happens is depressing, sad and hopeless. I have been doing my best to overlook trajedy and focus on what's positive. But, I'm finding that to be difficult today.
When I read about rescue workers being shot at, planes being shot at and doctors and nurses who are trying to evacuate patients being shot at, I feel enraged. I believe that most people are good, but the ones who are bad, such as the snipers, are truly evil. I just hope that they are caught and justice is done. I'm also worried about all of the people who have lost everything. What will happen to them? It's hard not to feel guilty when I'm sitting on my patio surrounded by paradise (more or less).
I now return to my regular programming.

Hi Melissa. I know it's hard for you to come home after dealing with the tremendous stress of your job and then face the despair these people are going through. I am also angered by these looters who stole guns and are shooting at rescue workers. I can understand desperate people stealing food and water for their family, but these people should be shot on site.
I would happily volunteer my time and ammo for this cause, and it would be a nice change to shoot at moving targets as opposed to paper targets at the range. I don't know why more people aren't doing it!
Yeah, I know I am a nurse and normally we save lives but as my friend from Missouri says "some people just need killin'".
On a brighter note, our president is on a walking tour and maybe a stray bullet will take him out. We could get out of Iraq, cut the national debt and gas prices all in one shot (pardon the pun)!
We can help in many ways, we can clean out our homes of all the clothes, linens etc that we don't need and send them to these poor people who now have nothing. I guess we could send money but I never trust that it actually goes to the cause. There is also a website set up for those of us who are able to temporarily or permanently house people, children who have lost their parents, adults, etc that have nowhere to go. We have sent an application to house an orphaned child (get ready "Auntie Melissa"). Go to the red cross website and there are many positive ways to help.
Somehow, I just can't picture you toting firearms and firing on people. What goes with guns, pink or lavender jewelry? Oh, and which purse would you carry? :)
I think it's great that you want to host an orphaned child. Wouldn't you rather host orphaned dogs, though? I saw a photo of a bus load of dogs being evacuated and most of them were sitting on the upholstered seats. It was sad, but so cute.
Ladies, i agree. Good on Sarah, what a thoughtful gesture :)
Melissa my gun bag is actually a leopard backpack (yes I have the matching shoes) although you are supposed to transport them in a locked case so I just got that and it's not as pretty, just like a metal briefcase that locks and it only holds 2 handguns:( (There are no matching shoes). I do not wear my jewelry to the range, also long sleeves are a good idea, the casings fly back and can leave burn marks on your arms, it also covers you for gun shot residue in case of an altercation later in the day. The instructor told me a diaper bag is best if you transport it your car because no one will ever try to steal that! Yes I ordered one of those too. I'm so disappointed because I should be there now but I threw my back out and I can't shoot today. Most people go to church Sunday am's, I prefer the range.
Back to the needy folks. Of course I would love to sponsor dogs but I can't find any channels set up to facilitate that right now. I got that there were people now there trying to find and rescue those that survived. I think they consider them a lower priority than human lives. (I am making a snarly face right now.) So lets get back to cleaning out our closets and just think about all that cool stuff at Bombay kids that you wanted. Maybe we can buy it for some homeless little girl who has never had anything!!
Thank you Michelle, you can come and play with us any time you want!
Lol! I would love to buy a poor little girl nice clothes and fancy bedroom furniture. What a great excuse to shop.
Update on Katrina victims.
There are many people out there helping the human victims but not many helping the animals. They give us so much more than we could ever give them back. Please consider the following groups should you decide to help.
University of Lousiana Veterinary Medical School, www.bestfriends.org, www.spcaLS.com, www.hsus.org,
Unlike the Red Cross (which cannot accomodate animals) they accept donations of all types, monetary, blankets, sheets & towels to line the cages, leases, collars, bowls, etc. The web sites have wish lists. Thank you for your consideration.
