Misadventurous Melissa

Everyday is an adventure, or misadventure as the case may be. It is the latter that makes for the best stories, inspiring the name of my blog. I'm a nurse and an attorney (and way too silly sometimes). I am retired now. WELCOME to my blog! This is a work of fiction inspired by true events. The patients I refer to are a patchwork quilt of various patient's problems mixed together. If you think you recognize someone, you are wrong. These people do not really exist.

The Season Of Angst

Christmas shopping is such a challenge. No one I'm shopping for needs or wants a thing. When I ask people what they want, the answer is always the same, they don't need or want anything and I know that it's true. I'm the same way. There is not a thing that I want either. If I did, I would have already bought it. Well, I can think of things that I would like, but no one is going to buy me a house on 10 acres and a team of gardeners.

Buying presents for people who need nothing is frustrating, time consuming and expensive, but there is no choice. People who buy presents for me, I'm sure, feel the same way. Presents have to be exchanged, everyone is stressed and I'm wondering why we're all doing this to ourselves.

My friend didn't want any more toys for her daughter--too many, too many not played with. So, she told everyone that any gifts brought to the gift-free party would be donated to the charity of her daughter's choice.

Interesting concept.

In our family, we stopped doing presents years ago (except for the children). It was quite a good decision, as I always had 28 people on my gift list.

R2Ks, that's a good idea, maybe if I get my courage up I'll suggest it someday.

Karen, there are no kids in my extended family, so that would mean no gifts for anyone. You have such a large family that it's good that you have that rule.

Michelle, that is exactly the problem. No one is poor, so if I or anyone else wants something, then it is purchased. There is no need to wait and hope that someone else gives it for a special occasion.

We could always just buy toys and presents for our dogs:)

Sarah, I wasn't talking about you. You're the easiest person I know to shop for and when asked, you told me what you wanted. That makes things so simple. :)
