Driving Impaired
I was driving in rush hour traffic, so I had time to study the drivers around me. Behind me was a woman who was holding her cell phone to her ear with one hand and drinking coffee with the other hand. How she was steering is a mystery.
At one point, I noticed that she came to a complete stop. The distance between us continued to grow. Did she break down?
She was almost out of sight when suddenly she made a lane change. She had stopped to wait for a break in traffic to change lanes, causing the cars behind her to pile up. Not that I approve, but sometimes I can understand freeway shootings.

It wasn't round 8am and the car, it wasn't red was it ? LOL
As a matter of fact, yes, but the car was being driven by a blonde (which may explain the problem). You don't own a blonde wig do you? :)
That's why I believe all new cars should come with an automatic weapons option, maybe a small rocket launcher. Of course I wouldn't mind waiting the standard week or so, just like when you buy a handgun, so they can do a background check. It seems perfectly reasonable to me!

You have too much self-restraint. ;)
Good lord. They are banning cell phones during driving in the city here. But what about the coffee?
I can hardly wait for the day when California gets smart (insert big laugh here) and bans cell phone use in cars. I have seen and almost been involved in things that would make your hair stand on end. I am way behind the times ... I don't even own one ... I hate them with a passion when they are misused, especially the people in stores that give us the privilege of hearing loudly about their life.
I see you had to delete a comment. Was it spam? Did they sneak by the word test?
Irene, the comment was removed by the author. It was one of those duplicate problems.I share your feelings about cell phones. I have one because I have to drive late at night, but I don't use it and it's always turned off. I really don't want to be available at all times.
Brandy, I plead guilty on the coffee charge, but it's not coffee actually. I eat chocolate and fruit while driving. It distracts me, but it also lifts my mood so that I'm less likely to use the rocket launcher that is mounted on my car. (Sarah, I just about died laughing. But, what are you doing up so late? Isn't this a work day?)
I think cell phones can be good in certain circumstances and my 21 year daughter has one. She had an auto accident and it was good that she had it so she could call us. People who constantly have to be on them no matter where they are is what drives me nuts. Having one like you do for late nights is a good thing, as Martha would say :)
I agree with you,Irene, one hundred percent. :)
Just one the cell phone issue. A sad thing happened here not too long ago. A fellow was chatting on his whilst driving, he had a bad accident, died at the scene, his mother heard the whole thing occur as it was her he was chatting with :(
It's funny, because I was watching a thing on the Autobahn in Germany. They said that a big reason that there are so few accidents on the high-speed highway is because Germans didn't have cup-holders in their cars. They see the cars for driving, and nothing else. Of course, this is changing, and I'm sure the Autobahn will be a free-for-all like American highways.
And yeah, I'm guily of doing a lot while driving, including playing referee.
That's a sad story, Michelle. I hope that being distacted by the phone didn't cause the accident.
Brandy, Germans don't have drink holders? How do they drive like that? :)
Ugh, nothing annoys me more than a driver trying to "drive" while being on a cell phone. Especially if the driver is anywhere near me. And drinking something. And holding a map. And putting on makeup. Yes, all at once. I have a cell but I refuse to use it in the car (for calling OR answering) unless I'm pulled over for a stop.
Those are my pet peeves too.
