Misadventurous Melissa

Everyday is an adventure, or misadventure as the case may be. It is the latter that makes for the best stories, inspiring the name of my blog. I'm a nurse and an attorney (and way too silly sometimes). I am retired now. WELCOME to my blog! This is a work of fiction inspired by true events. The patients I refer to are a patchwork quilt of various patient's problems mixed together. If you think you recognize someone, you are wrong. These people do not really exist.

Waking up to Gunfire and Coyotes

My fan was running, so it was difficult to hear exactly what was going on, but I woke up to loud bangs and howling coyotes. I don't live in the kind of neighborhood where gunfire is common, but that's what I heard. Howling coyotes are common where I live.

I was questioning my sanity when a few minutes later, I heard it again. This time, I turned off the fan and went back to bed and waited. Soon I heard a truck roaring up the hill. It screeched to a stop. There was loud squealing from the machinery and then several loud bangs as it dumped its load. It was just a dump truck. What a relief to realize that I was neither insane nor suddenly living in a bad neighborhood, it was just my over-active imagination.

I get that way whenever my husband is out of town--someone is always breaking into the house. In my mind. In sleep-state, I'm convinced (for good reason) bats are flying and ghosts are running around.
